Book Character Dress Up Day – Wednesday, October 31st

HSS-Austin would like to invite our students to participate in our annual Book Character Dress Up Day!  You may dress as your favorite book character on this day, but don’t forget to bring in your book or a photocopy of the cover of the book. Even our teachers and staff will take part in the fun as well…so let’s get ready for an exciting day!

Please remember there are a few items we will not allow on this day:

NO masks, face paint completely covering the face, inappropriate costumes or toy weapons.

Let’s have fun in a safe and responsible manner.



PTO Pastries With Parents – Wednesday, October 24th, 8:30am

Would you like to share a little morning moment with your student to get their day started with a special moment? Join us for Pastries With Parents sponsored by our PTO team.

Red Ribbon Week – Monday, October 22nd – Friday, October 26th

Red Ribbon Week is an important initiative to provide safety awareness regarding the elimination of drug use. Our campus will participate in Red Ribbon Week with daily activities to show our support to educate our students and encourage them to be drug free.

  • Monday – Put A Cap On Drugs – Hat Day
  • Tuesday – Sock It To Drugs Day – Crazy Sock Day
  • Wednesday – Be On A Drug Free Team Day – Wear Your Favorite Team Gear (team jersey or t-shirt)
  • Thursday – Shade Out Drugs Day – Wear Sunglasses
  • Friday – Show Your Red Ribbon Spirit – School Spirit, College Shirt or Red Shirt Day

“Don’t Be a Monster” 4th & 5th Grade Anti-Bullying Presentation – Wednesday, October 17th

On Wednesday, October 17th, we will have a special presentation for our 4th & 5th grade students. The Don’t Be a Monster” program is an entertaining anti-bullying assembly for students in 4th-10th grade. Their mission is simple: “we work to educate and empower youth to be leaders around diversity, inclusiveness, and show them how to stand up for their friends and peers.”

HSS-Austin Health Screenings – October 9th-26th

Our HSS-Austin Medical Assistant will be conducting the following mandatory health screenings as noted below:

10/09-10/12: Hearing Screenings (K,1st, 3rd, 5th and all new HSS-Austin students)

10/15-10/19: Vision Screenings (K,1st, 3rd, 5th and all new HSS-Austin students)

10/22-10/26: Scoliosis (5th grade girls)

PTO Family Game Night – Friday, October 12th, 5-7pm

St. David’s Foundation Dental Program: FREE Dental Screenings – October 11th & 12th

The St. David’s Foundation Dental Program will be on campus Thursday & Friday, October 11th & 12th to provide free dental screenings for all HSS-Austin students that would like to participate. A licensed dentist will view the student’s teeth to determine if they need treatment. If the dentist determines the student needs treatment, they will receive a ‘Dental Treatment Consent Form’ for parent’s approval. Students who do not need further treatment will also receive a form letting their parents know that no treatment is necessary.

All students received the first form which is the Dental Screening Form.  Parents only need to return this form if you DO NOT want your student to participate in the free dental screening.  If you DO NOT return this form your student will have their dental screening.

Parent Teacher Conferences – Monday, October 8th

Parent Teacher Conference Day is scheduled for Monday, October 8th beginning at 2pm. If you have not scheduled your Parent Teacher Conference, please do so as soon as possible. If you are unable to schedule your conference on that day contact your student’s teacher to make other arrangements. Coffee Talk With Mr. Subas – Wednesday, September 26th – 8am

Kindergarten & 1st Grade parents, please join our principal, Mr. Subas for Coffee Talk on Wednesday, September 26th at 8:00am.  Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while providing your valuable feedback about effective ways to continue our growth and improve our school.



Gifted and Talented Parent Meeting (Returning GATE Students) – Tuesday, September 25th – 5-6pm

We will host an informational meeting for all parents of our returning Gifted & Talented (GATE) students on Tuesday, September 25th from 5-6pm.

PTO Family Skate Night – Friday, September 21st, 6-11pm

Join the HSS PTO as they sponsor our last Family Skate Night for the school year. Come out and join us all on Friday, September 21st from 6-11pm to Playland Skate Center located at 8822 McCann Dr., Austin, Tx. 78757.  See you there!

ESL Parent Meeting (Spanish) – Thursday, September 20th – 5-6pm

We’d like to invite our ESL Parents to attend a meeting with our ESL department on Thursday, September 20th from 5-6pm.  This meeting will be for our Spanish speaking ESL parents.

Chick-fil-A Spirit Night Fundraiser – Wednesday, September 12th, 4-7pm

Join us for our Welcome Back to School Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night Fundraiser on Wednesday, September 12th from 4-7pm. Encourage your friends, families and neighbors to come out and support our school. When you dine in or purchase at the drive thru, just say: “I support Harmony School of Science Spirit Night”, leave your receipt and a donation will be made to the school.
